SENIOR DIRECTOR, PUBLIC RELATIONS & COMMUNICATIONS
Job Summary: This dynamic and highly motivated individual will work closely with all the departments to ensure successful communications, social media, community outreach and marketing initiatives are implemented to grow coverage and revenue for the NHRA. A key component will be to develop and maintain strategic relationships with all our stakeholders to increase awareness of the NHRA brand.
Lead overall PR vision and strategy and work with existing marketing/media team to generate national exposure in mainstream media and targeted categories including sports, entertainment, lifestyle and business.
Work with the Vice President of Marketing and Brand Strategy to develop and refine the NHRA’s overall communications strategy.
Manage a professional staff responsible for industry media, multilingual media outreach, and digital media.
Oversee news releases, media advisories and other NHRA content
Coordinate media interviews
Engage in proactive media pitches.
Coordinate media strategy with marketing strategy
Work with leadership team to position drag racing as a major sports player and unique form of entertainment and lifestyle.
Utilize and coordinate all communication platforms including blogs; social media; mobile; broadcast; print; grassroots marketing.
Manage emergency/crisis communications in coordination with leadership team.
Raise the profile of NHRA within the sports media category.
Collaborate internally to stay abreast of new initiatives and programs.
Build strong community and industry relationships.
Write and edit speeches and presentations for President.
Be the NHRA media spokesperson; facilitate interviews; represent NHRA/President at press conferences, briefings and presentations.
In collaboration with NHRA’s VP of Marketing and Branding Strategy, create and execute marketing plans for various digital platforms including web, social media, mobile, video, loyalty and CRM.
Required Skills, Experience, and Abilities:
A related Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in marketing, communications and public relations preferably in a nationally recognized sports property or live event venue.
A marketing background to include creating or executing marketing plans for various digital platforms including web, social media, mobile, video, loyalty and CRM is highly desirable.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Public speaking skills including the ability to be interviewed by the media.
Ability to anticipate problems and identify opportunities to build/protect the NHRA brand.
Ability to think in a strategic, creative, innovative and forward-looking manner while managing multiple issues and projects.
Outstanding interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive relationships inside and outside the sport.
Ability to aggressively and proactively generate fresh, creative story angles and sources to provide to both local and national media across multiple beats (motorsports, lifestyle, business, entertainment).
Eagerness to integrate PR efforts with Consumer Marketing and Corporate Sales to increase media coverage and ticket sales.
Knowledge of digital technology and a good understanding of how each platform operates.
Must be able to travel extensively and work evenings and weekends.

High energy, charismatic, action-oriented personality who can inspire and motivate staff and other communication managers inside and outside the organization with clear and compelling messaging and branding of the sport.
The ability to work effectively within budget constraints in a lean horizontal organization.
