Membership Manager - National Hot Rod Association (Glendora, CA)

Membership Manager

The Membership Manager is primarily responsible for creating robust membership programs focused on new recruitment, engagement and retention objectives.  In addition, you will manage the existing NHRA and NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League membership programs and the Membership Hospitality Center which travels to our 24 nationwide events.  This position will report to the Director of Ticketing and Membership.

Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Hire, train, and manage the day-to-day activities of the office membership team and the off-site Membership Hospitality Center staff

  • Develop and recommend new strategies to reach membership goals

  • Creatively incorporate membership sales objectives across multiple departments at NHRA including ticketing, marketing, sales, media relations, television, NHRA.com and our National Dragster magazine

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to coordinate messaging strategies

  • Develop a cross-selling strategy with the ticketing department

  • Research and continuously source value added membership benefits

  • Manage membership databases within the iMIS system and outside vendors

  • Supervise the successful planning and implementation of membership renewal campaigns

  • Provide ongoing support for membership activities, such as recruitment campaigns, prospect management and on-site event displays

  • Maintain membership project plans, mailings, database management, and invoice processing

  • Coordinate membership advertising and promotions in National Dragster magazine

  • Provide membership support and outreach via telephone, email and website 


  • Preferably a bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of related experience  in a marketing/sales environment

  • Must have supervisory experience

  • Must be able to travel nationwide to 7 – 10 national events per year that includes weekend travel

  • Solid proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

  • Knowledge of management software;  iMIS preferred

  • Ability to effectively communicate and create great working relationships within the NHRA community and across multiple disciplines

  • Knowledge of NHRA Championship Drag Racing a plus

  • Strong creative writing skills desirable

  • Ability to problem solve and resolve challenges

  • Ability to communicate both written and verbally in a professional manner

  • A self-starter with a positive “can-do” attitude and a demonstrated ability to work well in a team-oriented environment\

Vice President, Marketing & Live Events - National Hot Rod Association (Glendora, CA)


 Vice President of Marketing and Live Events  


 Dynamic, innovative, results-oriented and experienced leader to oversee all aspects of NHRA’s live event revenue streams, including advertising and promotions, ticketing, fan engagement, and on-site management (non-racing), of 24 annual major championship race events for the original extreme sport, plus responsibilities for membership, sportsman event marketing and key communications.   

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead teams focusing on advertising and promotions; fan engagement and membership; social media; communications; ticket sales; sportsman event marketing; and communications.

  • Create and execute a strategic comprehensive live event on-site marketing plan including entertainment, media and promotions that leverage NHRA’s existing assets including social, digital, editorial, and TV.

  • Develop integrated PR campaigns to heighten awareness of the sport, marquee events and TV and other platforms.

  • Develop and manage digital marketing initiatives, including social media, geo-targeted web advertising and local web promotions.

  • Develop a robust data-driven approach to consumer pricing, trends, purchasing habits and sales.

  • Develop tactical marketing plans and creative support for direct-to-consumer offerings including membership, event attendance, premium services and add-ons.

  • Work with internal teams to ensure all pre- and post-event information and promotions are communicated to our targeted audiences well in advance, ultimately driving increased profitability for the live events.  

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with all constituencies including sponsors and the racetracks hosting our professional series.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledgeable, self-starting, “hands on” marketing professional with on-point experience marketing live events, preferably in the sports/media/entertainment industry.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, persuasion, and communication skills.  Comfortable leading strategic discussions with groups of executives to gain consensus on strategic initiatives and tactics.  Able to think “outside the box.”

  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated and results-focused with strong problem solving and decision making skills, and ability to adjust to changing priorities.  Able to maintain composure under pressure and remain a diplomat.  Execution-focused mindset, analytical and balanced approach to problem-solving.  Ambassador for the sport.

  • Proven ability to impact and drive success in a fast-paced multi-site environment.

  • Knowledge of digital media, including web, mobile and direct-to-consumer marketing.

  • Ability to both strategic and tactical marketing plans.

  • Able and excited to travel nationwide to 15-18 weekend events.

  • Strong budgeting and financial management abilities.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study; Master’s degree strongly preferred.

Background:  The Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum based in Pomona, California celebrates the impact of motorsports on American culture. The Museum collects, preserves, exhibits and interprets the vehicles, stories and artifacts that represent America’s affection for, and the influence of, automotive speed and style in all its forms.

General Description: Reporting to the Executive Director, the manager will be the primary person responsible for fundraising for the Museum, from developing and running the Museum’s membership program to seeking and obtaining financial and other support from major donors.  Additionally, the manager will work as the PR ambassador by networking and representing the museum to corporate and enthusiast communities and to the media.  This includes speaking on behalf of the museum at public and private events with clarity, energy and enthusiasm and by writing press release, creating multimedia presentations and developing and updating the museum’s website.   

Qualifications:  The ideal candidate will have a broad skillset and experience (life, work, education) to perform all of the above responsibilities and then some.  The Museum has a large mission and a small staff.  You must be willing and able to pitch in as a part of the Museum team and do whatever is necessary – you may be designing a program in the morning and personally executing on it in the afternoon.  Must be able to manage situations in an environment that can be fast-paced and dynamic but also has quiet times where you will need to work independently to advance the Museum’s initiatives.  Resilience and humor is preferred; must understand and be comfortable in the automotive enthusiast culture.  Ideally will have demonstrated experience building, nurturing and creating relationships with board, donors, philanthropic foundations, community leaders, political and business leaders, and other stakeholders.  We need a self-starter with strong organizational skills coupled with the ability to work under many priorities and deadlines plus a talent to work effectively with others at all levels.  Knowledge and passion for the hot rod culture or automotive history is necessary. 

Compensation:  Salary is based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.  The compensation package includes generous vacation and paid time off; medical/dental/vision insurance along with short and long term disability coverage.  After six months of continuous employment, the NHRA Museum offers a 401(k) Salary Savings Program with employer match.  E.O.E.
